Selector lever position switch - fault?

I've just bought an Omega 2.5 V6 auto '98 and it's got a few little faults, I hope someone can help with some info (BTW I've searched and this is a Q I can't find an answer to).

The lights on the auto gear shift don't change, it stays in P. It drives fine but this, I believe, is why the cruise control doesn't work (it thinks you're parked?) and as far as I can gather the selector lever position switch is likely to be faulty. Now I can get hold of a working one but how hard are they to change? From what I've read you need to undo the exhausts and heatshields then drop the gearbox a bit to gain access to the switch, is this correct? Any info would be appreciated.

Easy to change, gearbox and exhaust dont need to be touched...

Its on the passenger side of the gearbox, a couple of bolts to remove and the selector rod arm (one nut).

Its worth removing it, popping the lid of and checking the internals (easy to do as its held on with screws)

Thanks for that info, it was easy to remove. The fault was that the plastic bit that goes on the shaft was broke (and someone had tried to bodge it) so I've had to replace the unit with a working one, though I've now got to adjust it as the reverse lights not coming on properly - I have to move the stick slightly - it wasn't coming on at all before though.

Oh and the cruise control is working now :-)

Adjustment is easy.....you align the slot in the switch when the gearbox is in D and then if the lever needs adjusting, you adjust the linkage
