Whilst driving in to work to day (Had done 20 Miles) stop at traffic lights, went to pull away and got a juddering from the back axel . It hasent done this around town only after a run and warmed up.
It was like the traction control was cutting in, but my TC switch is not working. Once picked up speed it was back to normal untill the next set of lights and did the same when I pulled away.

might be a lazy caliper,or handbrake shoe sticking on,best check it out.

Had checked them and wheel spins fine, it felt as if something was not engageing initially then went in.

I am by no means a specialist, but it sounds like it could be a rear diff. problem

Are you sure it's not an engine misfire?

When the HT leads were breaking down on our 2.5 the juddering in the transmission was severe
under load.

Since it was on the drive home after collecting the car I wondered what I got myself into.

Could be, I think thats next to get  plugs and leads changed. Booted it around town and nothing, took it down the M3 came of slip road and it did it. Now getting earach from the good lady as it has been one thing after another and we have a wedding to go to in Wales in 2 weeks.

Im not an expert on this so i could be talking a load off c**p but it might be the donuts on the prop shaft, as i recall these can cause juddering if they perish (they take up any shock loads down the shaft, and no there not a made up part they really do exist) if it happens when your pulling away that is when most pressure is being sent down the shaft

As i said it might not be and some one who knows a bit more might shot me down in a minute :-?

Try this: From a stationary pull away with a quite a bit of gas while turning left or right.... get the same noise?

Sounds like it might be an LSD.....in which case teh friction modifiers in the oil could be buggered, a diff oil change will probably sort it out.

Thanks everyone,   is it a special oil I need to use ? it is an ex police car and I think they had slip diffs on them and is it stright foward to do ?

LSD - Limited Slip Diff...  ....yes, special oil and additives - see maintenece guides section

Yes, its a special oil....its 90 grade hypoid with an LSD additive.

Opie oils do BOA90LS which is very good.
