Hi all

I bought a set of second hand alloy wheels mille miglia impera 19" the owner had them on a 04 plate vectra gsi,but since ive put them on my miggy i get wheel wobble when i turn corners plus its seems to pull to the left when i brake, but doesnt wooble in a straight line or at speed!
i know my car was perfect before i put these alloys on so could they need ballancing?(theres a load of weights in different areas of each wheel)

Not very technical but i'd swap the fronts to the back and see if it makes a difference, it'll at least prove if it's wheel related or not.

The problem with bigger wheels and lower profile tyres is that it shows defects in your steering and suspension more readily (because there is less tyre wall flexing).

I know Vectra GSi's are more telling of the suspension components than lesser models.

Are the tyres evenly worn?
Are they directional?

If it's just a problem on one wheel and that moves to the back then the vibrations would be felt through the seat (by your arse basically!) rather than through the steering wheel.

If all the tyres checkout and you get them checked and rebalanced at a tyre fitters then i'd be inclined to get a full 4 wheel geometry check, if there has been work done on the suspension or steering components then this is essential.

I think people on here would recomend Wheels In Motion.

Yes they are directional

Ill get the wheels ballanced see if that cures it.

when i had the suspension parts fitted it was all tested...tracking, camber etc etc so i cant see it being my car i had 17s on it a few years ago and it was fine apart from when i hit the kirb and buckled one hence steering vibration.

The pulling to the left when braking may be unrelated to the problem and may be a brake caliper / piston / problem, might be worth take a look when the wheels are off.

Out of balance wheels usually cause a vibration at a certain speed but as these wheels are unknown to you i'd still get them rebalanced, you can at least cross that check off the list then. Also while the wheels are off you can closely inspect the sidewalls.

I'm sure someone with a good knowledge of all this will be along shortly!!!

I would also add that pulling to the left might also be caused by the road surface. I have 18" wheels and when braking, the car much more sensitive for the bad road surface. If it also happens when the road is completely flat than you should investigate further the brake and the suspension. Unfortunately this is a sympthome you will always have when using huge alloys. Considering the vibration I would also start with balancing the wheel.

mine always pulls to the left which is a bugger when i'm eating!

i'd have the tyre pressures checked then re-balance, and see if the tread wear is even

is the wobble there when you go round corners left and right?

 Hi Lee,
          You say there are loads of weights in different places, well this all wrong for starters and whoever balanced them obviously did'nt have a clue what he/she was doing :-/. The weights should be grouped together not all over the place, also have the tyres checked to make sure they have centered on the wheel when inflated otherwise you'll just be wasting you money having them balanced anyway .
