Bloomin' Quick-Release Hose
« on: 08 August 2007, 17:18:28 »

Whilst on my holiday last week, towing my trust Trailer Tent, the bottom hose on the heater matrix decided to quick-release itself. One was not amused as I was rushing to catch the ferry to return from the Isle-of-Wight. When I pulled over to find out what the problem was, I noticed that the little clip that holds it on had gone AWOL. Lucky me. After letting it cool down for a few mins, I decided to make a dash for the ferry - which I just caught without killing the engine.

My repair was to cut the quick release bit off the end of the pipe and use three cable-ties to hold it in place. It worked!!!

Anyone else had this problem? Is there a more permanent alternative fix?

When you say little clip, which bit do you mean.

The connector is held on by the large sliding ring assembly, the clip simply stops the ring from moving, was it this small clip missing or the 3/4 circle thin assembly aid which is not used but often remains around the matrix feed pipe? .

A cable tie around the fitting to stop the sliding ring moving would have worked well.

I lost the little 3/4 ring.

I suppose in hind-sight I could have done as suggested, but I was a bit flustered at the time - boiling hot day, in the middle of a city that I didn't know, 100 miles from my holiday destination and I was sat on double-yellow lines.

Looks like I need a new pipe now. Do the QR connectors wear? Could wear be an issue?

No, the little 3/4 ring pays no part in the operation of the connector and when fitted properly, they dont come off.

I would suspect its been removed before and not re-fitted correctly.
