Ok just finished doing mine without taking stat out its been flushed through several times and now seems to be more or less just clean water I doubt it would be free from some traces anyway  :) My tempgauge was sitting around 95-97 on all journey types the temp is now reading just over 90 now  :y . The coolant in my system was pretty clean to start with too so just goes to show you cant tell whats inside the engine

Not only does it say remove it, my bottle says replace it?

Why is this?  Is it because the treatment eats at the stat?

I'm reluctant to replace the stat as i works just as it is now.

Not only does it say remove it, my bottle says replace it?

It means put it back in after flushing, not renew it.

It's a bit like the Americans putting warnings on packets of peanuts saying,

"This product may contain nuts".   :D

It's all to do with avoiding litigation, they've told you to take it out for the flush,
so they have to tell you to refit it in case you follow instructions to the letter
and try and sue them.
