Wheel Balancing !!!!!
« on: 28 August 2007, 18:36:35 »

Update :- moved on to ATS, they removed a total of 500 grams from the four wheels, then rebalanced all four, car still have a wobble at 55 mph. Took car to a company I had used in the past ( 15miles away), they noted ATS had "Static Balanced" the wheels ie weights placed on inside rim only, all four were rebalanced with knock on weights, its a lot better but the wobble is still at 55 mph.
New :- wishbones, drop links, wheels are not buckled, tyres run true, no suspension play (that I can find).
It feels just like a wheel balance problem, could it still be - Please Help !!

When I buy the car had similiar problems
these are the things I have changed

New soft tires  (most of the machines dont measure vertical movement this is important also its good idea to check this )
New alloys
New wishbones ( at that point wobble nearly minimized)
new shocks +heads
drop links
wheel bearings

and wobble lost..Very expensive way to fix. :-/

If bearings etc check out ok, then there is another possible cause and that's the nut under top nut of strut maybe working loose,; you'll need to pop off the plastic cover on the strut top mount, then remove the top nut (I think allen key and large spanner will be needed here) followed by the large domed washer and you should then see the lower nut (this holds spring/bearing and strut assy. together) now check tightness of this nut, if this nut is loose it can cause wheel wobble at around the speeds you mention.
