Cam Belt Change
« on: 28 August 2007, 19:37:28 »

Hi,
Just started to strip down a 1999 V6 2.5 petrol for a cam belt change and am thinking does the inlet manifold really have to come off? It doesn't look like its going to be in the way. Or am I missing something?
Thanks,
Michael.

The inlet manifold (in the V) doesn't need to come off. It's all the big black plastic tubing at the front that needs to be removed.

Do you mean the plenum (flat silver thing on top)?

That only needs to come off if its the extended type (usually fitted to 3L, not 2.5) that drops down over the front.

So most likely not needed to come off.

Thanks for your replies.

I did'nt know it was called the plenum, but it is the top section of the inlet manifold (flat silver thing on top). I also wasn't aware of the extended type for the 3.0 litre but that does explain why I have seen/read some references to its removal.

I'll leave it alone.

Thanks again for your help.

Michael.

Early 3.0l (pre 98) and 2.5 all have shorter plenum that does not need to come off for cambelt :)

Post 98 3.0l, and all 2.6/3.2 have the 'droop snoop' extended plenum that does need to be lifted out of the way...
