Wheel Bolt Thread
« on: 30 August 2007, 18:11:14 »

Just had a wheel balance all around, and the fitter found 2 cross threaded wheel bolts on the rear.
I'm guessing this happened during a recent service when the rear brakes were adjusted.

Anyone tell me the thread size for the wheel bolts, and I can get a tap at work in the morning to attempt a repair.

Can the hubs be helicolied if I end up with no thread, or am I looking at a new hub?

And yes I will be talking to the garage that seviced it......soon!

Cheers

How can you cross-thread a wheelnut?  :o
.. and manage to do it twice?

With a windy wrench and no clue I guess.

I'd take it straight back to the garage and tell them to sort it. You can't make a blunder like that without realising it (unless you're a total gibbon) and to leave it be and keep quiet could have seen you have a nasty accident!

If they're reluctant to do anything threaten to explain the safety implications of their actions to trading standards.

Well after its Dealer service and handbrake adjust (which I assume means removing rear wheels), I had awful vibration on my way to work, so went straight into the nearest tyre centre..........ALL front wheel nuts were loose!
Garage told me they had an apprentice.....and duly rollocked him.
However, to now find this problem has made me rather more angry................. >:(

doesn't apprentice work have to be signed off by experienced mech?

I would demand dealer replace the hubs and nuts foc
