What do you reckon?
« on: 09 October 2007, 21:49:08 »

Guy who my dad works with (and has joined here but not said hello yet ;))has an Omega 2.5 CDX, so arranged for him to come to our house this morning as he wants some jobs doing.

Anyway multi rams weren't working a Massive air leak... which I fixed :) :y

He told me that a relation had done his Cambelt, so I asked did he change the tensioners????
"I don't think he did" so we asked him at the Garage he owns whilst out after a part..
"No, only the belt needs changing on them, your tensioners were ceramic anyway!"
so I says "No mate you have to change the tensioners as well" "I go by what comes up on the computer it will say on there if tensioners need changing.."

As anyone ever heard that one before?????

My version of Autodata specifically states that the tensioners must be changed at the same time .. 4 years /40 K

Actually, so does mine, strangely enough ;)

Autodata was the first generic software I though of...

its a garage, they do what the computer says, because its subliminaly teaching them to make it so that it's breakable, therefore giving the customer reason to come back and spend more money

Never  ::)

I thought everybody knew that the tensioners on all vauxhalls in general are the bits that go.

It makes me fume just thinking about the about the amount of jobs done on cars by garages that just aren't completed to a satisfactory standard that just ends up costing the owner money in the long run.

The amount of garages/computers/books that specify a smaller battery for a car that ends up failing a couple of years down the line. Makes you wonder doesn't it.

First check that the vac Pipes are going to the correct places using the diagram http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152565204

I then pulled out the vac pipe that goes into the multi rams, used a spare bit of Vac Pipe that i pushed into its place then sucked to see if the multi rams would activate with me suckin like mad ::)
When they did move I went about seeing if there were any leaks, by feeling and listening all the pipes.
I found a huge hole on the underside of the Vac pipe that runs from the "T" off the brake servo pipe (at ther back of the engine drivers side) to the Vac Tank at the front. So I cut the pipe where it was damaged and re routed the vac pipe, the front one then started to work but not the back one.
I can only say that whilst sucking on the rear multi ram pipe i got some dirt out of the pipe, which I re-connected and it worked.
You could tell straight away the cars get up and go was there, also the MPG should improve with no air leaks too...
Hope this helps ya :y
