oil film under plenum?
« on: 16 October 2007, 08:06:01 »

Hi there,
Can any of you experts out there please answer a few queries for me.I decided to check the breathers on my 2.5 , and this has led me to ask the following:-

1.When I took the plenum chamber off there was an  "oil film"  on the metal inside the 6 rubber o rings,is this normal, if not , any ideas?  The cam cover gaskets had been done on a previous occasion,so would be surprised if this was the cause.

2. The breather tubes were quite clean ,only where the thin left side one goes on the black plastic ecotec thing waspartially blocked .They were not gunged up, but what is IN the aluminium breather box at the back, and does this need cleaning out (if possble how?)

3.I did not clean the egr ,at the time, can you direct me to the "how to". on here please, I cant seem to find it.

Thanks
Philip

Its expected, this part of the inlet is after the breather system from the crank case so you do get a very small amount of oil through here.

The box should not need cleaning, just make sure the holes are clear (which are the bits that clog up)

There is no how to and the V6 ones very rarely stick so its not something to worry about. They do sometimes leak slightly but, if this happens then blank it off.

TBH i like to see a thin film of oil there, makes sure the plenum and rubbers don't dry up or corrode.
