Headlamp removal
« on: 08 October 2007, 19:52:59 »

Can someone confirm that there is 3 screws holding the headlamps in as I need to bring them forward to check the beam alignment motors as they are making a groaning noise but don't appear to be working as the computer is showing a check on the field of vision.

You'll also get field beam whatsit if you've a duff level sensor on the FNS wishbone or RNS radius arm.

Thanks Andy, do these sensors look the same as I had all 4 wheels off at the weekend and only found the one on the front n/s wishbone. It was in one piece with all knuckle joints connected.
Where exactly is the rear nearside radius arm and what does it look like?

Right quick update..........
Found the sensor on the nsr trailing arm and the lower knuckle joint was seized solid.
I took it all apart and cleaned/greased and reassembled......still getting field of vision error on computer.

This prompted me to re check the front sensor....this too was seized solid  :-[ and I carried out the same as above.
Well I am still getting the check on the computer after all that  :o........I removed both headlights to check wiring etc but nothing obvious was wrong.
The strange thing is when the ignition is turned on there is a creaking noise coming from both headlamps.......when the creaking stops the warning pops up on the display  :-?
It sounds like the motors are trying to adjust the headlight range but for some reason are not working properly.
Are these motors removable from the headlight housing? Perhaps they are seized? :(
Any further suggestions appreciated as this is doing my head in  :exclamation

Tech II would tell you exactly what the HID system is complaining about, I don't know if the 'Cheapo Tech II' would tell you though.

(PS sorry for lack of reply as to what a trailing arm is - I missed the question for some reason  :-[ )

My cheapo doesn't it just reads engine fault codes and resets the eml.

Oh! :( That's all I've ever tried to do with mine plus a few air bag lights in different cars.
