Driver's Door won't unlock
« on: 19 October 2007, 21:01:27 »

Hey guys.  Having an issue with driver's door which seems to have deadlocked itself shut and won't open with either key or fob.  It stopped working on the fob about a week ago and was working fine on the key, but before I could (afford to) go get it sorted, it decided to work one more time (on the fob) and deadlock on me.

Anyone got any advice on how to get it open? I look so darn stupid climbing across the seats every time...  :-[

Do the rest of the doors open on the key  :question Try it again with the key, give it a bit of force, it should open

Have you replaced the battery in the fob?

The key was working fine last week with no stiffness or anything. All the other doors are opening and closing on the fob with no issues.

goosed lock motor by the sounds of it

however vefore you rip the door apart, cold weather has had a "sticking" effect on my driver's lock, probably because of the driver's door keyhole exposure to the weather...?

if your car battery isnt flat, the key should be able to get the lock up

Would that stop it being opened from the inside too?

And how do I get the door card off if I can't get to the screws :question

EDIT: Oh, and battery isn't flat :)

If the motor has faioled completely, and its deadlocked, your only way is with key, and it will be VERY stiff....

Yes it is and I didn't want to try forcing it and break the only key I have.  :-/

But if you say it'll open....

Sorry I have only just seen your post, it is the door lock motor, before you buy a new one (£90 ish), take off the door card, once inside you can see the plastic plunger (white), try first while in situ loads of WD40, at the same time work the lock. If no response take unit out, again loads of WD40, you will know if it's working rusty fliud will start to run out. Same happened to mine 12months ago, still working fine. Worth a try  ;)
best regards

If you remove the door lock motor, it is possible to dismantle it. Inside you will find two microswitches, check the normally closed resistance of each. You will likely find one is quite high. Change the microswitch and all may be well.
Maplin, not very much for a microswitch.

Thanks guys. :)  I'd love to say I'll get on it straightaway, but time is at a premium. Unfortunately it might be easier to find the money for the garage than the time to do it myself. :(

Anyway, a BIG thank you again to all postees :y  (Is 'postees' a word? It is now!)

Then try some 3 in 1 oil, the gubbings inside are mechanical and like us need a bit of lubricating from time to time. applies to all your locks now that should not take to much of your time.
