« on: 26 October 2007, 01:36:48 »

Hi guys ...my omega is an estate V6er......

Im informed that in the tailgate of my estate there should be a radio Amp.

I cant find it at all and notice i get nowt on MW/LW receptions at all.  FM is fine.

Can anyone furnish me with a photo of what it looks like and where its located??

Monza,

It's an aerial amplifier to enable the radio to use the heated rear window elements as the aerial. I'm on my second now and I still haven't got a good radio reception! It's not an amplifier in the general sense of the term!

Anyway, once you remove the carpetted trim, (a dozen or so small torque headed screws) when standing under neath the open tailgate with the car behind you, its an oblong plastic box (mine are green but I think they come in black as well) over to the left hand side. It's bolted behind the metalwork and has two electrical plugs and a co-ax for the aerial.

PS Were you/are you a Monza man too?

PPS My second aerial amp I fitted blew the HRW fuse when I put that on! In fact it nearly stalled the engine it drew so much power :o

Not all have it - if it has the roof top aerial, no amp required.

Well mine's got a rooftop aerial and an amplifier :-? Now I'm confused! I thought that the roof top aerial was only for a cellular telephone and not the radio? Either way, I'm going to fit a proper aerial and be done with it :y

I meant a proper radio aerial on roof, not the cellular one.

So if you've got a radio aerial on the roof where would it go on estates? I can't recall seing one. I was hoping to pull the co-ax back out of the tailgate and re-route it to where the cellular aerial is and replace it with a radio beesting aerial. Sounds easy but....!

Hi again,

Ive got a bee-sting aerial on the roof near the tailgate so it wont need a amplifier right??

So why is the MW/LW reception non existent?...is it the bee-sting aerial thats knackered??

Further to this, I am now the proud owner of a 1996 Elite brochure (yeah, I know, sad git!) which states that upto 1996 the radio aerial is incorporated in the heated rear window elements but in 1996 a rooftop aerial will be added instead! In the picture of the Estate the radio aerial seems further back ie almost back to the tailgate whereas on my '95 the rooftop aerial (which is supposedly for a cellular phone) is quite a bit further forward than this.

So......perhaps the way to see what you've got is to see how close to the tailgate your aerial is? I'll have to look closely at all the Estate pics on Ebay now ;D

Look at teh heated rear window elements.....are there two vertical lines approx 1/4 of the way in from either side?
