MV6 Wandering Frontend
« on: 23 November 2007, 16:52:41 »

:) At last got to the bottom of the problems with my '02 MV6. I bought the car 2 months ago with 40K miles and from day one was concerned about the way the frontend responded to changing road surfaces. I was constantly having to make small steering adjustments as the frontend used to pitch & yaw especially if you tried to move out of a tram line on a motorway. I took it to a place recommended here in Hemel Hempstead, they re-set the steering geometry (gnats cock out)relieved me of £72 and the car was exactly the same so I took it to Motorway Services Inn, Field End Rd Ruislip who immediately knew what the fault was.
The Lower wishbones were US so these were replace, tracking re-set again and two new tyres, hey presto its perfect.. cant recommend these guys enough. Cost £600 inc. (£220 for decent tyres) :y

If it was Wheels in Motion at Hemel I'm surprised that Tony did not pick up on the problem.  Did you go back once you drove off and found the fault still there to discuss?

Also, bear in mind that if there are two new tyres on the front, irrespective of whether the wishbones/alignment is done, the car will run straight and true for a short while, until the tyres wear into a new pattern....

If tony at wim only charged you £72  then he did not charge you the full price as you say was only a smudge out. I would be supprised if he did not check the wishbone bushes out and tell you if he was unsure of anything. He is compleatly professional at his job and reset my front end  and made an execellent job of it. the car is compleatly different to drive now and the only issue i have is the tramlining i get with the pirrelli p7000 tyres. I cant afford to scrap 4 new tyres so will live with that seeing as i am a capable professional driver. :y
