Ignition problem

Hello all

          i only joined today and this is my second cry for help....i got a problem with my ignition....ie..i turn it off and the lights stay on....and at one stage the engine kept running.....i've left the battery diconected...is this a good idea till i get it sorted.. someone said the onboard computer needs rebooting.....that went straight over my head....(my first car came with a starting handle)....so i'm sitting here glass of wine....looking forward to lots of help please!!

 It sounds like a faulty ignition switch to me, they usually fail by not allowing you to turn the key to start the car but i suppose they can fail the other way. try that first. you can replace the barrel and if you get it from a dealer they can get it changed to use the original key. :y
