What does the dipstick read?

Did the message 'Check Oil Level' appear first?

Mine has a habit of saying "Check Oil Level" when on a long run. After letting it settle/cool down, i check the dipstick and it's around half way. So not empty, but in need of small top-up.

Think the gaskets may be something to do with it as there is the tell-tale oil burning smell and residue on the rocker!! Does this ring any bells with you?

Mine shows the same error on a run and its always at mid level.  Top it up to max level and no errors appear.....

My last 2.5 would occasionally put up oil lack, worrying at the time, but  I never found the oil level to be low.

Sensor connector, perhaps?

Mine too sometimes says "OIL LACK". CHECKED THE STICK AND ABOUT 1/2 A LITRE NEEDED TO BRING BACK TO UPPER MARK. GUESS IT IS A CONNECTOR PROBLEM. :-? If you have oil in the plug wells then yes you have fuberd cam cover gaskets.

obviously dont forget to solve the cause of this problem and clean the breathers as well, mine were nearly completly blocked up when we did them, and the colour on the nside of the plenum was awful, 5 or so cans of carb cleaner later and its much better.

cheers

They do have a habit of occasionally bring up the message if the oil is less than halfway down the dipstick.  Just keep it just under full, problem solved ;)

They seem to be awfully sensitive to oil level.  According to the owners handbook.  The message 'Oil Lack' appears when the the level is dangerously low.  Mine did it when I picked it up.  I checked the level and it was only a little below the full level.  I topped it up with around half a litre and its never displayed the message again.  I just did the oil change on monday and the level was still where I topped it up.

I didn't get any oil warning, i've had both in the past, and my rocker gaskets/blocked breathers did need doing.

Actually that's why I don't have my car at the moment. I knew they needed doing, but put it off. The result of putting it off? Waiting for half an hour on the side of the motorway for the AA to come and recover me and my car.
However, am I right in thinking that having oil in the plugs (even a considerable amount) would not explain why it just cut out on me with no warning? I mean it didn't go rough, or lumpy, it just cut out.

And just before the AA arrived the hazards stopped flashing and the lights dimmed (flat battery). Is this a sign that something else is wrong as well? Possibly alternator/or just tired battery? or something more serious (ie expensive?)
