Tappety noise
« on: 04 December 2007, 16:29:18 »

I was just listening to my Miggy, and I heard a tappety noise. It sounds like a lifter acting up a bit - only really notice at idle.

I don't think it's a big cause for concern at the moment - although I'm tempted to try some VX fully synth - I've heard this helps with noisy lifters?

I found moving from 10W40 semi to 5W30 fully synth makes my lifters sound slightly worse.

I moved back to 10W40 and now I'm back to 5W30 and I think the engine is slightly more tappety with the 5W30.

Mind you in the service history Vx were asked to listen to the lifters at 50k miles - they said sounds normal. Car still fine at 126k.

Your engine sounded really sweet the other week, James...

Until the LPG injectors started clacking away!

Mine are quite noisy!

Are you sure it isn't your gas injectors?
