boot luggage cover
« on: 20 December 2007, 15:00:38 »

Hi. I need some info if any of you guys can help. I bought my 2001 2.6 elite estate a week ago. Before i bought it i noticed that it did'nt have a boot luggage cover. No probs i thought. I will get one somewhere. I looked on e-bay ( this was before i had seen or heard of the omega owners forum ) and sure enough there was one for sale. I put a bid in and won. Just got it delivered an hour ago and have tried to fit it but it seems that the bars are too long to fit in the channels. I have checked the ad on e-bay and it was from a 98 CDX. Did the size or spec change on the facelift in '99? I have also taken out the bars from the cover to check them and they seem ok, just too long. Can you buy these bars seperately or do you have to buy the whole luggage cover? thanx.

Not sure if they are different. My facelift estate year 2000 you need to push them in from one side to locate in the grove they seem to be spring loaded, you may have already tried this though.

:y thanx all for your replies. it would be much appreciated chris if you could possibly try both of yours and let me know. i have tried to fit one side in and spring the other in but they just physically just wont go. i may be wrong but the small helical gear on the end looks different to the rack on the trim. i managed to get this one on e-bay for £23 which i thought was not a bad price. i was quoted today from a vauxhall breakers in north london ( edmonton ) £70+vat for a second hand cover. I have made a note of the part number on the bars/rods and may give my local dealer in luton a ring tomorrow to see what they say. bad time near xmas to shell out loads of dosh on another one.
( the kids wont be too happy if i take their prezzies back for a refund to pay for it! ha ha. ) if it is the wrong one and can't get replacement bars will sell for same price i paid for it. shame cause it looked good when i opened packaging.
thanx again all. :y

Just been to local vauxhall dealer and have been told i cannot buy bars individually and i have to buy complete luggage cover ( why am i not supprised! ). Find this strange because there are vauxhall part numbers on the bars. Anyway, was told that a new cover is £220+vat. I know i can get a second hand one for approx £80 so will take the ones i have into work when i go back in the new year and see if i can adapt them. Thought i had a bargain from e-bay when i only paid £23 for it and in truth still is if i can adapt them.

Thought of searching e-bay again but the numbers i have on the bars/rods are from the 98 cdx cover. Don't know the numbers i need for the 2001 version. Any thoughts anyone??

PM Zirk and see if he's tried them on both cars yet.

Or if he can give you the part numbers for the correct bars.
