Fan speed problem.
« on: 27 December 2007, 11:04:41 »

No first thoughts are the fan controller resistor, however, read on......

I have a strange problem.  I have a facelift with the CC.  The fan seems to have a mind of it's own and is difficult to control the speed of.

Example, if I set the temperature to 17, the fan come on a full speed, whether I manually turn it down or not, turn the temp back up and the fan speed is ok to control.

If I put the vent position on the windscreen, I have full control of the fan speed.

I have tried changing the CC control panel for another, but it didn't cure the problem, so I can only think it's the speed resistor, but still a strange problem?!!?!?!?

Sounds like normal operation of the climate control. (which is irritating). Whenever you change the temperature control, it decides what fan speed it needs to achieve it and overrides any previous manual setting.

Ah, but then I can't change the speed when it changes it.  the example with the 18 setting, I can't change the speed at all.

That's odd. I can manually control mine but it just whacks the fan speed back up when I change anything else. Pressing the defrost button always winds up the fan speed, but the windscreen vent (up arrow) doesn't change it, and it can be manually controlled in all situations, as far as I am aware. Will have to go and have a fiddle with it now.

Fan speed is controlled by a module near the fan motor, based on a signal from the climate control, IIRC. If the fan speed is controllable at all, there won't be anything wrong with the controller, IMHO.

I wonder if some other sensor problem is causing the climate to misbehave? Might be worth checking it for codes? Is the little sampling fan running (drawing air into the little vent in the panel)?

Yup, either Marks_DTM or I can do the firmware. It that doesn't for any reason resolve it, we can monitor whats going on in the climate system and work out whats going on....
