Cam cover oil seals
« on: 31 December 2007, 19:07:31 »

Plug holes 1,3,5 full of oil, cleaned them 3k ago, so time to tend to cam covers, I am looking to replace seals, gaskets and fit new cam covers as the chance is the existing ones are warped.
Best price so far £230, all Vauxhall parts.
Is this a fare price ?

Cam covers do not warp unless given serious abuse by some one without a torque wrench.Breathers are blocked and that causes the gaskets to go pop and fills the plug holes with oil. where the old gaskets gen vx, if not then non gen vx are crap. Do it your self and get it right, and save a fortune

I'm just down the road from you.

I've got a pair of cam covers and a single cam cover seal that won't be used.

Will do you a better deal by far.

You won't need new covers unless you want to replace for the hell of it. I've just done mine on a 2.6l, which is virtually the same and the genuine Vx. parts cost less than £90. I didn't need to replace the large inlet O rings either, so they're ready for the next occasion if required.
If your doing the nearside, don't struggle with the cable tray in place. Spend time separating the top and bottom halves, remove them completely, and gently tie the cables out of the way. Makes the job much less frustrating, and ensures a proper job when you've finished.
