Regardless of changing the complete clutch kit and bleeding my clutch, I am having gear selection problems.

Selecting first from a standing start is hard. It feels like it just won't go into any gear unless forced. I've noticed putting it in 4th before 1st helps greatly, but sometimes it's a problem getting into 4th. I've also noticed it doesn't seem to want to go from 4th to third, but if I bring it back to the neutral position and then try 3rd, it's fine.

Another characteristic is.. if you roll up to some traffic lights in 4th gear with the clutch in, keep the clutch down, and you can select 1st no problem. BUT if you pop it to neutral, raise the clutch, and then dip the clutch again, you are really fighting to select first gear.

I'd appreciate opinions. Clutch kit is all new.

IrmscherKris has an R28 box for sale which I have been considering for a while, just want to make sure it's my box at fault?

It felt fine when I drove it - much to your frustration, I know!

Is it just selecting gears from a standstill that's a problem, or on the move too?

Does it crunch when selecting reverse?

Just wondering if it's clutch drag?

No crunch at all with reverse

I'm unsure how it could be dragging, it's all new, clean, and the spigot is fine  :-/

The splines the friction plate runs are nice and clean with a light grease coating?

Gearbox oil level ok?

You could do with checking your gear linkage for wear too.

That would be my first thought, but as the problem is on multiple gears surely that's unlikely? Mine is on 175,000 miles and the box is like new apart from some slight play in the selector, so unless it's had some serious abuse I doubt several synchros would be gone at that mileage. Anything's possible though.

its alright - he can't do anything to your PC.

My estate had 180+ on it when I sold it and the gearbox was smooth as silk.  Never had an oil change or new clutch, and 3 kids had learnt to drive in it..  Maybe lucky but i suspect they are pretty much bomb proof (unlike the autos...)

I had a very strange problem that I thought was the DM flywheel. On mine I couldn't change gears when the revs were high. Let the revs drop and the gears would change fine.

The cause was the clutch pressure plate coming adrift and it must have been causing drag at higer revs.

Anyway if you're interested I have a spare 2.5 manual box you could have for a nominal fee or if you wanted pop down to Bristol and have a drive in mine (and perhaps the Barge Captains) and see what you think.

Oil changed and level fine, all cleaned up and splines lightly greased when I fitted new clutch

Where is the bite point in terms of pedal travel? Do you have to use excessive travel to get it to disengage?

Does it start to creep forwards if you sit in first gear with the clutch disengaged for long periods?

Is the action of the clutch pedal reasonably precise, or a bit wooly and hit and miss?
