EML on gear change
« on: 15 January 2008, 17:05:13 »

Hi
Asking this question for a friend. On changing gear, when clutch depressed the EML comes on and revs drop. If the revs are allowed to drop, engine will stall. The revs have to be kept up to prevent stalling. When gear reengaged EML goes out. Idles fine and is fine when in selected gear and driving.
Has car booked in next week for a tech2. Is paperclip possible?

Sounds like it could be Idle Air Control Valve.....

Could be worth cleaning it to see if it improves... :y

My car has a similar problem. On dropping clutch to change gear, revs drop and eml flickers on and then off. Engine does not stall but this problem makes for jerky gear changes as the revs appear to drop too much. I keep meaning to get it into the $tealers to see if they can put it on the diagnostics but the car runs okay otherwise so haven't bothered as yet.
Advice on whereabouts the Idle Air Control Valve is and how one should go about cleaning it would be much appreciated?
Cheers.

A diesel won't have an idle air valve either...

A live data is probably a better option.  Does he live near me or Marsk_DTM?
