On another note, I am not too familair with the MV6 suspension setup, but my understanding is that the dampers do not determine height, the springs do.... the dampers simply acommodate the springs. So it would seem that the dampers are the same height for the lower MV6 and for the standard car, though the MV6 may be stiffer...
Prefacelift MV6 uses same springs as rest of range, but is lowered via shorter shocks.

TB, I know you have an MV6 and I don't, but I have doubts about that..... I always knew that the shocks do not affect the ride height, only the springs do.... indeed this is how I lowered my Astra at the time, standard shocks but shorter springs.

Trust me, the prefacelift MV6 springs are the same for other models, lowering all done on the shocks.

Not sure about facelift models, as never really bothered to investigate.

OK, I had a look on the Internet to remind me... the shocks may be shorter, but this does not reduce the ride height by itself, they are merely shorter in order to accommodate for shorter springs which do lower the car. See also:

http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Suspension-Guide_W0QQugidZ10000000001881176

So I can't see how the car can be lower if the springs are the same length....  :o

Also, ECS has a different P/N for 'SPORT' suspension springs.... :-?

Jaime.....
Bellingers in Grove have an account at parts for your trade card name (O.S. of B. )  , and they do pretty decent discounts even on stuff that's not part of TC list....

My Old elite estate got brand new rear suspension 6 months ago....  they did a fairly  good price.....   better than I was quoted elsewhere mate

JamesV6 is getting a LOT of new stuff on that car...  :-[

I replaced the rear springs on my minifacelift with brand new Irmschers which were 30mm lowered.  Certainly dropped the rear compared to standard....

I won't remove your posts, because I'm a nice person sometimes ;D

Having replaced springs and shocks on mine, I'm unlikely to change my standpoint.

I think its probably just better to agree to differ ;D

You guys who think the shocks can't adjust the ride height.... you're wrong :P

Mostly the ride height is determined by the springs, but the dampers can have a range they like to settle in, causing them to exert a force on the springs that changes the ride height. Even though they're not "damping" while in a steady state, they can still resist the expansion of the spring. It's probably pretty unusual to adjust ride height via the dampers on normal road cars, but it can be done and appears to be the case on the MV6.

Yes, they are lowered on the shocks because shocks can achieve this funstion (how do you think the self leveling works!).

Be careful of the springs on EPC as the facelift sports chassis did use different springs but, not the pre-facelift cars.

Ow, I sorted the post count for you to save TB the work.... ;D

Thanks for th P/N for the estate auto-leveller shocks...

Interestingly I'm on the factory Irmscher option  springs all round - front shocks were stock pre-facelift. they were in fact knackered whic dropped another 10mm out of it... It *really* didn't go over speedbumps as it had all of 120mm clearance at the front.
New set of OEM Bilsteins fixed that (and stopped it bouncing about like a bunny possesed).
The rears are interesting as it does have the Irmscher springs on it, but this seems mad, because the autolevellers will take out any drop :-)
Mind you  - I did load it up with an entire house, and looked at it again before levelling it - it looks better higher at the rear with the mad front air dam on mine i think ....

Can I just add that by adjusting either the position of the spring seat, length of the piston rod or depending on damper design, adjusting the point at which it rests through changing the gas/oil system in terms of resistance can all adjust suspension height.

In the case of the omega, if the springs are the same I would guess that its running a shorter piston rod to hold the vehicle lower, not sure how this would affect the need for sag though. Only way to tell is to get two side by side and check the rod travel etc.

I'm in need of a pair of 1998 MV6 Estate autolevellers (I do a lot of hauling of random stuff and find it invaluable) for mine....
Any Ideas?
Cheers,
Edwin

Sorry to drag up an old thread here, but better than yet another on a similar "thread"; if you know what I mean?

I have an auto levelling Elite facelift 3.2. I note that the MV6 is lover than the standard range? Is that correct?

Does this mean I can lower and stiffen my Elite, but retain the auto-levelling, by moving to MV6 parts?

If so, what would I need to change, shocks, springs, both?

What would the part numbers be?

Thanks
