Been looking at getting a general duty tig welder for home use, would have liked AC/DC but I cannot justify the price for one and they also appear to go for good money on fleabay,
so I have narrowed my search down to the following machines and wondered if anybody on here would be able to comment on them?

If I remember rightly a lot of MIG Welders can be swapped over to TIG, by changing the wire and gas... A lot of the Guys on here reckon Machine Mart is a great place to get tools

Not sure how you would be able to change mig into tig, the torches are different there maybe other difference I do not know, The machine mart units are either scratch start or expensive ac/dc units.
I am looking for a HF DC only machine would love an ac/dc unit but they are way to expensive for home use!!

A better bet may be to look at electric arc welder and buy the tig conversion kit, not that expensive but also be aware of the amperage, obviously depending on what you want to do with it. Check it out cant remember the exact details. I finally decided oxy/acetalene electric arc and mig was more than enough. although modern car manufaturers specify tig for repairs, because of the modern materials they use, cheap steel.

I had a look at the add units for arc welders but I decided against one, I would prefer a single purpose unit tbh. Not sure about car manufactures using cheap steels these days I thought that they now used boron steels which need specialist gear for welding such as mig brazing with synergic migs.
