2.5TD Viscous Fan
« on: 24 February 2008, 17:27:20 »

It looks like the water pump is starting to leak on my 2.5TD.
How do I remove the viscous fan, and is it RH or LH threaded?
Once removed, is the water pump straightforward to change?
About how much do the pumps cost?
Thanks fellas.

Reasonably sure it's a L/H thread.

LH thread.  Need to sort out something to counterhold the pump pulley.

Pump is quite expensive - around £50 - £70 pattern, about a ton genuine.

Thanks fellas - I'm extremely grateful for your advice.
Got a Quinton Hazell pump from my local motor factors for £37.60 inc.
Changed it today in just over an hour, without removing the rad. assy.
Viscous fan nut was indeed LH-threaded, and came off with no problems, once I counterheld the pulley. I can see what you said regarding the plastic impeller. Although mine was intact, I found the remains of a previous impellor in the recess, so whoever changed it last time, wasn't particularly thorough. Thanks again chaps.
