There's sod all wrong with your ECU. Muppets.

The burning oil, check plug wells for oil.

Gearbox warning - is it coming on before it starts moving?

Sounds to me like cam cover gaskets for the smoke........and knackered g/b for the g/b probs....... :(

Is there oil in the plug wells?

Tho on the bright side coolant level....if level is ok will just be knackered sensor  :y

Do you get lights on the panel when you first turn the ignition on ??

If so, have you "paperclipped it" ? .. if not, check battery connections and fuses in the box by the battery

if your thinkin its burning wires i strongly recommend as an avionincs tech you get under the bonnet and check the wires over.

If there is any burnt wires its will be visible. they tend to melt! start with the wires that are closest to the exhaust manifold and work your way out!

good luck!

Check ALL the large fuses in the small boxes by the battery. Check the battery connections, especially the earth side.

Check the engine-to-body earth  ( years ago I had a MG that the engine earth broke on .. it was earthing down the throttle cable !!  now THAT got interesting .... !! )

If it WAS overheating electrically, and now no longer is .. something has "burned-out" hopefully just a fuse .. but could be something more serious ... :(

Pull the tops off the cable trays that run along the top of the passenger side bank and across the front of the cam belt cover. Inspect all the wiring for any conductors that have melted insulation. The whole engine management is fused at 30 amps, IIRC, and most of the wires will burn at that current!

Also check the positive terminal of the battery. This can work loose and get hot. Low battery voltage could explain some of the spurious errors you're getting.

Have a look at the wire from the crank sensor down by the oil filter which is routed up to a connector behind the passenger side cylinder head. Cold be that it has been replace and the wire badly routed so it's melted against the exhaust manifold. That would certainly explain the reluctance to start.

Alternatively it's oil you can smell and it's the cam cover gaskets that have failed, so check the plug wells for oil and also look for leaks around the edges of the cam covers.
