Oil Warning Message
« on: 25 April 2008, 08:35:12 »

Hi all, newbie here, the check oil warning message keeps appearing on my display despite the fact that the oil is up to the max. mark. Is there a simple fix for this or is it likely that the sensor is duff? If it is the sensor, does the sump have to be removed to replace it? What kind of price is the sensor? Car is a '99 3.0 Elite. Thanks for any help

Probably a new sensor mate.
You can try a couple of quick oil changes to see if it cleans the sensor.

The sump is easy to do though on your car if it is the sensor. It lives towards the bottom of the main ally part of the sump, driver's side and prtrudes down into the steel pan below, & IIRC is held in place with a circlip type clip (E clip?) but the sump does need to come off to replace it.
My problem was the reverse of yours. I'd to remove the sensor when I  replaced my sump. Because of the heat, the wiring had become brittle & snapped between the plug/connection & the actual level sensor.

Could be the sensor was fitted the wrong way round ,this would bring up check oil info erroneously. This happened on some vauxhall's.
