Elite Td Bad cold starting.
« on: 03 May 2008, 16:44:26 »

Hi, Recently starting from cold engine fires then dies, after much cranking then starts. Runs fine otherwhise, glowplugs check out ok, will start fine hot or when low on fuel. Is it a bad sensor or what. No EML lighting. Any ideas before I get stranded somewhere. :-/

Two things spring to mind

One is the lift pump in the tank, check the state of the pickup pipe and that the pump actually runs (see the maintenance guides)

The other is the bleed off pipes.

Thanks, I'm guessing the lift pump is ok cos it starts fine when on reserve. Except 1st thing.
How do I tell if the leak off pipes are shot. Appearance??

That is not a guarantee as the pump only runs for a very short period and he diesel pump then takes over.......so if left for a long period of time the fuel has a habit of draining back.

Just examine the bleed of pipes for signs of cracking etc.
