If you keep going back to that garage you will go broke.
Either they haven't got a clue what they are doing, or worse, they
know exactly what they are doing and are taking you for a ride
for a nice little earner.

You wouldn't suddenly start leaking oil from 3 different places.
Oil leaks run, drip and blow everywhere. The engine needs to be
cleaned and then the exact leakage point can be observed.
Not guessed at from where ever you see oil.

High oil pressure would not cause an external leak.

Worn piston rings would have you burning oil, not leaking it.

Blocked breathers would cause the cam cover gasket to leak.
But seeing as you have a '98 2.0L, I would expect your engine
to be often stalling. Is it?

Using a flushing oil for 300 miles beggars belief. Not only will
you cause wear in your engine, but on a 10 year old car I would
expect a large amount of built up deposits within your oil system
to be loosened. This could cause oil way blockages and oil pick up
pipe and filter to become clogged, thus starving your engine of oil
in vital areas.

Do not go back to that garage. They are either incompetent  or
taking you for a ride.

1)Get someone else to do an oil and filter change for you now, as soon
as possible.
2)Ask in this forum for members in your area to recommend a local
Independent or mobile mechanic if you know nothing about cars.

How much oil are you leaking?
Drips or puddles?
How much are you having to top up? Over what mileage?
Where do you see it leaking from. Not what the numpties
at the garage are telling you.

That's ok, Bicky. We're all here to help each other.

I see you're doing all the right things now.

Glad to see you're getting the oil and filter changed tomorrow.
I could just see you going back to that garage after running
on flushing oil for a month, and them talking you into a new
engine, with a great sucking of air through their teeth as they
give you the £Gazillion estimate.

The steam clean will start you off nicely at square one.
From your figures, I'd estimate that you are leaking approx
one fortieth of a pint a day. Not a lot. So the leak has slowly
spread about your engine and made it look a lot worse than it
actually is.

You'll be looking for a seep or slight trickle from somewhere,
so you should have plenty of time to spot it before it spreads
all over your engine again.

Gravity will take the oil down, and airflow will take it back
along your engine. So look at the top front first and gradually
move backwards and downwards until you find it.

Hopefully, someone will recommend a new mechanic for you
on your other thread to help you out. But in no circumstances
go back to the original garage.

Don't forget to update us on your progress, and ask any question
you like.

The only stupid question is the one you are afraid to ask, in case
you think it makes you look stupid.  :)
It won't! We all know that on here.

Some of your 'Sisters' on here, seem to know more about cars
than us petrol head blokes
.   :(

Hello Bicky23 and a warm welcome to you!

The boys on this site are, as usual, giving some first class advice :y.  Certainly I would stay well clear of that garage as they are taking advantage of you as a women in distress; I cannot believe that they can be so stupid and inept as they are making out. A flushing oil IS JUST that; a flushing oil, not for using as an engine oil! :-? :o :o :o

All us ladies have had this! >:( >:( type of treatment and I suggest you either listen and act on the great advice you are being giving, also buying a Haines Omega maintenance book (from Halfords), and learning the basics of car mechanics by going to evening classes / practicing on your car OR find a local  - recommended - garage (speak to a few motoring men who seem to know about cars) :y :y

It is possible that a member of two on this site will know who to recommend in your Devonshire area. ;)

In the meantime I can only echo the message that the important thing to do now is to find the source of that leak.  Oil leaks can come from various places, so a good look around the engine (including from underneath!) can pay dividends.

Whatever, keep asking the questions and we all will try to help in our own ways! :y :y

All the best ;)

........further to my previous post....if you are interested in doing things yourself on your car I recommend you invest in a:

set of car ramps

a hydraulic (2 tonne) trolley jack

a basic tool kit of 1/2 inch socket set, set of ring / open ended spanners, set of pliers, set of flat and crosshead screwdrivers, a rubber headed mallet, set of overalls, a box of surgical gloves, and  anything else you can afford / get your hands on.  (all available from Halfords) :y

With experience and you gaining knowledge continually, with practice, you will save the hundreds / thousands of pounds as I have over 30+ years.  It is greatly rewarding as well to complete jobs, putting your car in order, and when you can tell a garage mechanic where he can go when he is telling you a load of sxxt because he thinks you are a weak woman!! ;D

I hope this helps!  Otherwise find that utopian 'great and wonderful' garage!

All the best! :y :y
