Omega Exhaust and MOT :-S
« on: 08 May 2008, 18:13:01 »

MOT is due on my Miggy...

BUT:

The insides of the backbox has rusted away, and the silencing material (like fiberglass) keeps hanging out of it! (all the time) so I just keep pulling it out every other time I get out of the car  :-[ (Get some strange looks!  ;D)

Anyway, The cat / centre section was blowing on the join, and the rear join was also blowing. I noticed the flange was causing a problem, so I removed one of the centre pipes, and the back box so I could file a hole a bit larger and the replace it and seal the joints again...

While the back box was off the car, i got a bit carried away, and have pritty much emptied all the fiberglass stuff out of it.

However... Im now wondering how loud it will be (I dont mind it been loud - infact, I want it a bit louder) but could it fail its MOT on this if its too loud?

Has anyone ever had a back box with pritty much no guts! And what was it like as ive not got it fitted to mine yet  :-X

The loudness will not be a problem for the MOT, as long as its not blowing it will be fine ;)

Well its all back on the car... and it doesn't really sound any different... Having said that, I have got a cone filter on it which makes it sound nice  :y

It could be a tiny bit more responsive, however that may just be in my head (wishful thinking! ::))

Will see what happens with the MOT, and if ive got some spare time + cash, I may have a go at some kind of custom exhaust... I want to hear the V6!!!

Im wondering what would sound better...

Different Backbox
De-Backbox (straigt pipe)
De-centre box
 8-)

Loud isnt a problem if the car is expected to be loud. My TVR has no silencers on at all, 121db , no problem with the MOT. BUT if you get a picky MOT place and the exhaust on your miggy sounds a lot louder than standard it can fail as its not to standard spec any more. You'd have to be VERY unlucky to have that happen though.

So just whip off the silencers, straight through pipes from the cat back and enjoy  :y
