Front Multi Ram

Hi Everyone

I fancy my 2.5 is down on low rpm torque, so I started with the front multi ram. I can't get it to actuate by revving, so I checked the plumbing and it's all ok. Maintaining a vacuum after switch-off too. So I disconnected the pipe from the valve to the actuator at the actuator end and listened / felt the end for a vacuum where it might cut in when revving, but nothing. It's as if it just can't be arsed to use it.

I tried taking it for a short run to get it up to temp but no change, and I can't imagine it only using it when hot anyway.

Any ideas?

Maybe a split somewhere along the length of the connecting pipe??

Just checked connecting pipe and it's fine. I can blow through the valve from that pipe though, I presume when the valve is off it vents the actuator feed to atmosphere to release it?

Correct......you need to really rev the engine hard to get the front actuator to operate (give it death as our Stoke On Trent massive forum members describe it)

Yeah but he doesn't like it when you give it death and he's in the passenger seat ;D

I'm flipping the throttle right to it's stop real quick.

I don't need to take the revs that high as it's supposed to operate at low revs right? As long as I'm getting the throttle fully open it should go?

Ok never mind, I just changed my auxilliary belt, disconnected the forced air system and it's vacuum feed and rejigged the vacuum supply hoses, then blanked off the EGR for good measure. (OK so I'm bored)

Now I just came back from Tesco and blipped the throttle when it's all warmed up and the front multi ram is actuating!

It only cuts in at higher revs though I though it was to help with low rev torque???

Its as much load related as rev related and on the drive you have no load!  :y

Thought front multiram came in at 4000rpm.

Should I be able to see the rear actuate at low revs whith wide open throttle then? I'll give it a go tomorrow.

If you give your car "Death" around 4000rpms worth, the front multi ram should activate.
Not always does the rear multi ram work by blipping the throttle at low revs 1000rpm ish as I found out myself. If while the revs are high you then blip the throttle you may find it activates then :y
