flushing the oil  from the water
« on: 29 May 2008, 21:03:10 »

I need to flush my water after doing a oil cooler I was thinking of getting the temp to norm then taking of the small pipe that comes off the rad on the left hand side letting it drain out while the car is running and feeding water in to the header tank I was thinking this would help a continuous flow and if the car is running the water is hot and being pumped round the engine.
The only prob is putting cold water in to the header tank but I could do a trickle flow.
Eny comments would be most helpful thanks

it will need at least 20 flushes of fresh water.

Try a little, and i mean a tiny amount (cap full) of bleech in there, flush lots of times with water straight away.

You can drain it from the drain tap on the passenger side of the radiator whilst adding water to the expansion tank. :y

.. but to remove oil, as said, you will need more than water alone to break down the oil.

I've not had to flush an Omega .. but in the past I've done several systems .. and a "low suds" detergent is the best answer. One of the better tricks was to use dishwasher tablets .. they are designed to breakdown grease and they don't "foam" ..., we used to flush/fill  add  a tblet run the car for 2-3 days, repeat until clear .. might take 2 weeks but it got there .. :)

I do NOT know the wisdom of using these in a Miggy engine .. but it might be worth a thought... I would certainly try it ....
