I took my radiator out and plugged the holes and filled it with Fernox for household central heating and left it over night, gave a good flush the following day and its been right as rain since.

Easiest way is to take the hoses off and stick a hose pipe in, this clears most of the loose stuff. If you think it is still blocked after that, take the rad out .. lie it flat and pour in boiling water, then feel the rad, any cold bits are the blocked bits. I have heard that fernox - sold for cleaning central heating systems - can clean a rad .. but I would only ever do that OFF the car !!

The bottom hose should be pretty cool, after all, the water has gone through the rad in order to cool down !!

edit :  SNAP   :)

If its that bad you will be better off replacing it IMHO.

There is a Forte product called Cooling system flush which is very good but will not do the impossible if you know what i mean.

IMHO you can do a pretty good flush in situ if you take time and care. It is, again IMHO, important to isolate the rad from the rest of the system IF you are going to use ANY chemicals.... the last thing these engines need is stray chemicals running around the cooling system !!

Back flushing from the bottom hose would be my way of attacking it, but I've not had to flush a rad on a miggy yet... annual coolant change combined with a thorough clean water flush at the time  (6 - 7 changes over a week) seems to do the trick ... touch wood .. :)

you say head gasket just done. Is there oil deposits in your cooling system?

If so ( and this is only a suggestion - as others on here may think I'm mad)   but if oil is in there -drain system out - disolve a couple of DISHWASHER tablets in a bucket - then fill system with this solution. Run around for a couple of days . Then drain, flush through and repeat. After a couple of goes all oil should be gone.

Have used this method on several engines with really good results. But have NOT tried it a MIGGY as yet. I found it worked just as good as the "Forte" stuff  ( £30 a go ) if not better.

Dishwasher tabs are non - foaming and grease cutting :y :y

I await with baited breath - the reaction from other OOFERS ;D ;D

My only worry would be the effect it MIGHT have on some of the metals in the system, dishwashing chemicals are quite strong (see the effect on cheap plated knives if you don't believe me !!), however for a short period followed by a very thorough flush with clean water they might well do the job, I used to use a "low foam detergent" that my cleaners at work got for me .. :)

I can only agree Entwood.  Flushing out fully is a MUST. but as I said have not tried it on a Miggy yet.  I would do though if mine required it.  But it does work very very well. :y :y

Seems logical. Would this serve as a system clean then? to remove debris ect, or just as a degreaser? Do you mean running it in the engine coolant system or removing rad? TIA  :y

This idea is only for when oil has contaminated the cooling system. It will not remove scale etc.
Just run the car around locally for a day or two between changes.
Also as  Lizzy  Zooo--ooom   - pointed out don't do during the really cold months as you have no frost protection.
