will a vectra X20XEV ECOTEC ENGINE fit
« on: 02 July 2008, 19:48:02 »

Sorry if this has been anwered a million times.
I have a 2L 16V which has a knocking noise which sounds like its from the top end (new head fitted 20k ago), and is breathing really badly from the crank caseing.
My intention is to fit a X20XEV from a Vectra, purely due to availability, does anyone know whether it is a straight swap or if there are any nasty complications involved?
Thanks Chris

Not quite a straight swap but should be easy enough.  You will need to swap the sumps over and the dipstick, apart from that all is the same.

In terms of space yes it will fit, however i would imagine the change from FWD to RWD will take some work and thats before you considor any transmission change etc etc.

No, no difference as long as you swap a manual for a manual, automatic for automatic.

Thank you, will be a manual to manual swap, not getting involved with torque converters if I can avoid it.

Think I may have needed to swap the flywheel but can't really remember, no biggy with the engine out anyway.  Whilst you have the engine out compare the new and old engines and take note of what is different.  I fitted all ancillaries possible while the engine was out.  Makes it a lot easier when putting it back together, common sense really.  It will definitely fit.
