Outside Temp Sensor - Mind of its own!
« on: 22 July 2008, 10:54:33 »

I have had this issue a while now, I have had 3 temp sensors on in 6 months. Sometimes its ok but most days now its up & down but mainly showing in the minus degress. (Said -31 Degrees on sunday)  :'(

Markey Mark tried a different sensor at the Yorkshire/N.E Lincs meet on sunday but It didn't make any difference so put the original back on)

Looking for any other suggestions really!!  :-/

Its a bit crude that!! would look awful stuck ontop of the dash!! LOL  :D

I am not an electrical wiz but you would think that it could only be the sensor telling the display what the temp is, If it was wiring wouldn't it just either work or not work!! like I said there is probably more to it than that but i'm not an electrician.

I had a similar problem - there was a break in the wire to the sensor, just behind the bumper. The outside plastic was intact, but the wire inside was broken. Both wires looked OK.

Readings were erratic, going from low through very low negative numbers, to 'F'

The wire must have been stretched or something - perhaps someone removed the bumper without first disconnecting the sensor.

Found the fault with a test meter and a pin to pierce the wires. I cut the wire either side of the break and spliced in a new piece with crimp connectors - worked fine ever since.

Peter.

Aswell as the wiring, it might be worth checking the actual connector as this can be prone to rust/corrosion causing bad contacts. I had the same problem and after replacing the sensor I got a spare connector from a scrappy and it cured the problem (the original sensor turned out to be fine).

My sensor was knackered cause it just displayed "F" on the screen ... i replaced it with one from Vx and at first it showed -39 !! ... dude at Vx said give it a few hours to get up to temperature .... i was a bit dubious but sure enough after a few hours it displayed the correct temp and has been fine since  8-)

Good Point!! Will have a look!
