hi guys, although im new to the site this is my second omega and inbetween owned a RS turbo and then a bmw 318! nice range there!

anywho....
 just bought my new one for 1200 notes with no history but in good nick for age and mileage (facelift model)

notice that under braking from around the 50+ mark there is a wheel wobble. but i have also noticed a droning noise coming from what i think to be offside front? i thought it could possible be wheel bearings?

any ideas?

how much roughly we looking at to replace anything that needs doing?

Have you checked that none of the pads are down to metal.  I know the noise would be different to a drone but I would at least check it 1st.

Also jack the corner of your car up and put an axle stand in place, give the wheel a spin to see if there is anything binding, if the bearing is going it will makea rumbling noise.  Annother check for the bearing wear is one hand top of the wheel, other at the bottom and trying pull.puc=sh rocking the wheel, this may well show up any play in the bearing.

If it does identify any thing then post back on the forum and some of themembers will be able to help with advice and prices.

Big brake wobble is likely to be warped discs.

Droneing could be bearing or a dodgey tyre.

could the droning noise also be caused by the disc coming  on/off the pads if it is a warped disc?

Hi matt, the drone could indeed be the pads rubbing the discs more than normal, but to be safe remove the pads and spin the disc to listen for a dry bearing noise/ rumble. if it is the bearing then you will have to replace the hub and beariing as it is a sealed unit on the omega. the discs and pads are availible in a kit from vx and is about £80 on trade club, let me know i can get them on my card. Use gen vx pads and discs as they cant be beaten in my opinion.

Wheel wobble 50+ = warped discs.  Use only Vx ones - pattern ones are krap (i know this from experience - lasted around 6k miles!!!)

As others said jack up and spin to check for "drone".

To check for wheel bearing play, jack up, and swing on tyre at 12/6 o'clock position.  Any play bearing related - check tightness - should be rather tight (>200 ft ibs from memory!)

As to the droning noise, try listening if it lessens when you're going around a roundabout. If it's the r/h wheel bearing then the drone will "usually" subside a little as the weight will be biased to the l/h side. I've used this method twice in the last 8 yrs with miggys and it's proved to be a pretty reliable "drive along" test.
