What to do??
« on: 21 August 2008, 21:48:09 »

Hi guys,

I've recently acquired a 2.5 v6 cdx, for the grand sum of £200 its an s plate with 109k on it and its faultless! :) Reason it was so cheap, it suffered a small fire in the power sounder, caused no damage to anything else so i've taken that out and away to the mot station i go!

Now this is where the questions start, it failed on most brake lines, 1 tyre and o/s/f drop link, what are the brake lines like to do? :question especially the front to rear sections?  :questionshould i do both drop links? :question

Now whilst these works are to be done what else should i look out for? i'm thinking of doing a cambelt and tensioners, drive belt and rollers etc. if i buy these in kit form, what should i get in the kit? What are these jobs like to do? :question

Sorry for all the q's but i want to make the most of this lovely car!

How do Russ, welcome to the Forum. Dont be sorry for the q's you,ve come to the right place for all the answers. This place has saved me a fortune. Hope it does for you to. Never done break lines, but i am sure someone will be along who has. Drop links
are cheap and easy to do so yes do both, if ones gone the other wont be far off, they are known for banging when buggerd, if youll pardon the expression.
First thing to do on here is look through the maintenance section. But main things to look out for, or some of them anyway, are wishbones or the bushes in them, worth a look while you do your drop links. As they wear they can alter the geometry and bugger your tyres on the inside edge usually, othe symptoms are vague steering, tramlining and s wheel at 1 or 11 oclock/pulling. Chances are yours will need doing.   Engine bay, look for leaking cam covers caused by blocked breathers, pull a plug lead on both sides and check for oil in the plug wells. Look out for water leaks, but the car will tell you about that, hbv first place to look  and the v of the engine after that. But main thing is the cam belt or more importantly the tensioner and pulleys which usually fail first so i hear, 40k or 4 years, do use cam locking tools, there is a dvd how to in the club shop. But all that is in the maintenance section, guides abound. Search for anything else its all there.
Oh and have look into getting a trade club card, it will save you cash at the dealers parts dept . Again have a search. Hope helps.
