Well checked for air leaks and none found, standard air filter is fitted and is clean, i have just bought a s/hand MAF off the net and will see if that helps.
Puzzled by the 64 code, where is the fuel tank vent valve??
When trying to start it at the moment its like the Balast resistor on the old Fords has failed, fires when the starter is engaged but let the key go and it cuts out, now i know there is no resistor on these but thats what it seems like.
I did have to replace the starter motor last weekend but had no problems when i had fitted it, engine was fine, no misfire etc so dont think i knocked anything when i was doing it.
Before this started i had the EML coming on but only after driving the car for a while, in town that wouldnt take long, only about 5 miles but if i got onto the motorway i could go for about 15 mile before it would come on. Once it had come on in the morning it would stay on all day if i used it alot but leave it for 5 hours or so and it would be out again.
On a recent run out it averaged 32.4 Mpg over 570 miles so seemed to be running OK despite the EML.
The codes were:
O2 sensor, Crank sensor & Knock sensor.
Oh and made a mistake, its a 98 not 96 Doh so think its a mini facelift.
