welcome to the site

Is it climate control, or heater dials?

It could be a loose vac pipe behind the dash :y

Listen for a hiss on all directional setttings...

With ignition off, hold the OFF and AUTO buttons

Turn ignition on, start the car - hold OFF and AUTO for about 5 seconds - this will reset the climate

Out of interest. When you turn the ignition off, do you see "--" come up on both the temperature displays?

Have done the button switch off but no improvement. Yes, the -- does show when we switch off.

Your climate control is showing a stored error (probably the failed servos or something).

Where in the UK are you, you would need a diagnostic that reads ECC...

Nothing has been done since we owned the car. It wasn't working properly when we got it. We don't know the history. :(

I would start by popping the climate panel out and ensuring both connectors are fully inserted.

There is a guide in the miantenance section.
