new purchase

hi all,
just purchased a v reg 2.5 v6 108,000 miles, very good nick,
have had vauxhalls before, mk1 astra, mk 3 cavalier, and mk 3 astra.
first miggy, is there anything i should look out for?
and anything ineed to do straight away apart from the usual like cambelt & tensioners :)

Hi and welcome,

Cambelt & tensioners are true killers for the V6 so nice to hear thats on your priority list (every 40k), lots of other things to look out for, as with any car over 100k, why not spend some time looking back in this section and start your own Hit list.

Check for oil in spark plug wells...sign of leaking cam cover...clean breathers regardless as its unlikely to have been done...if you keep the breathers clean your unlikely to suffer from cam cover seals leaking...

breather system got to be number one if your happy the belts have been done at 4 years or 40k as said. If it has new tires keep a very close eye on the fronts for uneven wear, as if there is a problem with camber or wishbone bushes you can knock the arse out of a pair in a 1000miles. Try a paperclip test to read the engine ecu for error codes, and make sure all the dash lights are working, Sometimes they get removed to hide a problem.
Also worth a brouse through the maintenance section. Hth

I clean mine every 6 months or so :( :( >:( >:(
