2000 2.0l CDX saloon missing.
« on: 07 October 2008, 22:32:03 »

just bought a v reg 2.0l CDX salloon for £300 and it is sweet.... well chuffed, bar the missus has nabbed it (when running right)

now........ it has a miss fire. :'(

changed all 4 plugs today for gen- GM ones, but not cured it...

tried all leads (pulling off and seeing if engine note changed) but to no avail.

got it hooked up to the diagnostics at work today and nothing was found???

when driving it is very "tractory" and has no guts, but when reving it at stand still, s.l.o.w.l.y, it is fine..... but when you give it some beans it stutters.

any ideas?????

thanks.

only 3.2 and 2.6 seem to detect missfires afaik.
Had very similar on mates 2.0 16v. But changeing plugs cured it. These engines also suffer with blocked breather and throttle assembly(clean) and usually benefit from cleaning the cam sensor from what i have read. But you may also in your case, want to look at the dis pac as it does sound like the ignition is breaking down under load.
Did you say removing plug leads made no differance?

Had similar on mine, at a guess I would suspect the DIS pack, not to hard to change if you have skinny hands. :)

right.

today i changed the following.

dis pack
egr valve
sensor on top of the egr
maff sensor

and i also changed the breather pipe from the air intake to the rocker cover.

now this seams to have made it a little better but still running lumpy as a lumpy thing....

any more suggestions???

how do i clean the cam sensor?

thanks

I take it this car can't be paperclipped being a 2000 plate?  First thing - does the Engine Management Light work?  With the ignition in position 2 without the car started does the EML come on?

To check if the cam sensor is the problem - while driving take the revs up to over 4500rpm, if the revs are limited at 4500rpm then cam sensor is likely to be your problem.

To clean it take the fan belt off, timing belt cover off, spark plug cover (ecotec strip) off, unplug the cam sensor, then undo the bolt holding it on.  The cam sensor sits in between the cams (funnily enough).  Lift it out through the top and then clean the metal part and its mating face.

Take the car a good drive and go through the revs (above 4500rpm) and see if the rev limiter is still there.

Also check your injector wiring, it's particularly pish on these cars (mine anyway).
