O2 2.6 SALOON AUTO

HAS STARTED TO STICK IN 3RD GEAR AND WON'T MOVE UP TO TOP
UNTIL 45MPH OR GOING DOWN HILL AT LOWER SPEEDS.
COULD THIS BE AN AUTO BOX OIL SHORTAGE AND IF SO HOW DO YOU CHECK THE LEVEL.
