« on: 14 November 2008, 15:02:25 »

Hi a know this question may have been asked a few times but which is the best cam locking kit for the 3.0 v6. I've seen sealey ones for around £80-£90 but i've heard that certain kits arn't always that accurate?!

Might be worth avoiding Laser ones. We have seen a few that are not accurately cast, and don't brace against the water pump properly.

how many times are you going to use it? Versus how much they cost, renting from auto vaux sounds favourite to me. Or borrow from a member that knows you?

Thanks for advise, i've borrowed one before from auto vaux, but think its now seen better days! (unless they now have a new one) A need it all to be spot on when doing the job as its fitted with high lift cams, gas flowed heads etc so a guess 60-80 quid aint too bad for peace of mind. Just browsing in the inet there are so many kits available hard to choose which is most accurate think the sp is the one to go for :)

that ast looks identical to the vs130 locking kit by sealey, personally from using my vse130 its very accurate with locking the cams in position and even slightly out and it wouldnt go in- was very very hard to get it back out with load from the cams on it haha!

also something i found easier was putting the belt on anticlockwise and taking all the excess belt out with the tensioner and then just fine adjustment on the cam idlers after but still using the locking kit to hold so that the cams dont move till you've got roughly the right tension all the way round the belt (i had a few dummy runs) lol

also vse is half the price of the ast one :P
