Thanks Alex, makes sense.

I take it the two hollow studs are to allow water flow and are sealed with O rings, so I will need to purchase new rings before stripping if it is that.

yeah they have a little washer with a little rubber on the inner edge from memory of taking some off my 2.5 when i was trying to find out what went pop and pissed all the water out!
you might beable just to get two of those copper washers (like off the oil cooler pipes into the rad oil cooler section for example) then just reaneal them over the hob

I don't think the rings on those studs are seperately replaceable .. ... if memory serves they are Dowty washers and have to be purchased with the rubber attached to the washer .. :(
