Windscreen washers gave up completely a few days back, lots of noise but no water from the jets. I guessed that the water was frozen. However, once the temperature had picked up a bit it wasn't much better and only 1 of the 4 x jets was really working.
I found a bit of fusewire and cleared the blockages and the n/side is now fine but drivers side nada. ended up removing scuttle cover etc, pulled the nozzle out and managed to clear it (bicycle pump!) but it is still not up to much. Also I notice that recently it takes several seconds for any water to reach the nozzles.

a couple of questions spring to mind:

1 is the connector in the pipe on the rhs of the engine bay a non return valve? (or just a connector) The pipes are well jammed onto it so I don't want to risk snapping it if no point.

2 what are the electrical connections on the washer nozzles for? (hopefully not to open valve when water is required or the bicycle pump won't have helped  )

I will be having another go at it tomorrow so i'd welcome a little guidance from those familiar with the system.

The joint on the driver's side is just that, no none return in there.
The wires going to the underside of the nozzles are for the heaters.

Your lack of water is likely to be a blocked filter in the bottle. The pump just pushes into a grommet, but the grommet also contains a mesh filter which is probaby blocked up with gunge.

wires on washer jets are suposedly to heat them when you switch on the rear demister and heated mirrors, but the connections corrodevery easily due to the nature of the jet, so probably wont work anymore.

not sure bout the non return connector tho..

do you use a screenwash? it's possible that it can emulsify after freezing, cleaning and flushing the whole system could be the only answer

worth doing anyway

You need to reverse flush the jets - the sludge won't come out anyother way

Hi all, just thought i'd update you.

I pulled the pump as suggested by Andy. I then removed the grommet that the pump sits in and sure enough it was just about completely blocked with soft emusion like sludge. I spent about 20 minutes clearing the holes with a needle and finally flushed through with clean water and refitted. I still had to clear one of the nozzles again but now I have better washers than for many months. Also noticed that they seem to stay 'primed' now with almost instant water delivery.
