Nearly sussed oil leak.
« on: 30 January 2009, 01:17:48 »

Ok chaps..a very small oil leak. ?
V6 2.5  JUST above the oil filter somewhere, not the head or cam gaskets, appeared immediatly after an oil/filter change.

I've checked the filter and it appears to be tight enough..
I think it is swqwerting out from somewhere under pressure, very finely because although it smells when stationry it never seems to get to a constant drip..

Any ideas please as to where i should investigate next ?

cam gaskets or oil filler - check cap gasket!

Ok couple of potential options...

Oil from filling oil back up dripping down and burning off and will go away eventually...

Filter not on quite tight enough...

Oil filler neck split or broken, unscrew it, pull it off and see if its ok...

Has it had an oil cooler replaced?

Sorry for delayed reply.

The long neck filler pipe has broken slightly BUT the oil isn't coming from there..as a test I screwed the cap on directly without the long neck.

She hasn't had a oil cooler change, just oil and filter.

It MAY be possible that the filter gasket is letting oil sqwurt out some how...or I wonder if Vx gave me the wrong size ?

Are there any oil carrying pipes back ther at all...could they be at fault ?
