hi im daryl. new in here so a lil bit lost. in the process of buying a p plate omega 2.0 from my uncle. snapped cambelt though??? how big a job is it? have got some help but not sure if it will need head skimming etc thanks

Snapped cambelt= a lot of work  
Firstly remove the head and inspect the damage to pistons/valves.

Just rebuilt my 4 pot, so if you need any help just ask

wat will be a rough guide for costs for parts please?? im paying 100 notes for the car with nothing on it but my uncle had at 4 4 years and everything that went wrong was fixed and flew through every mot. only reason it has to go is credit crunch hitting home now

Well, if you do everything yourself it wont cost too much. I got a complete head gasket set on ebay for £30 including bolts. The head will need skimming and more than likely new valves will be needed for about £60. But check for damage to pistons before buying anything.

me an a friend are doing it ourselves. is the price a fair one for the age of car and work needed though? thats all im worried about is spending too much on buying it!

its a p plate 1996 nothing on it just out of mot. my uncle had it 4 4 years and watever wentwrong was done but credit crunch hitting home now! i offered him 100 notes for it

If it was in very good condition I myself would give it a go.
If you have the skill it wont be too bad.

But depending on condition. Have you looked in any scrappies? Might be cheaper and even easier to do an engine transplant :-?

As for a snapped belt, that sudgests poorly maintained to me!

If you strip it down and re-build it then very carefuly inspect the valve guides as these can be cracked by the bent valves

it was maintained ok by my uncle. just cambelt snapped out of the blue on him. if i rember he did have it booked in 4replacement but it snapped b4 work was due
