He he... yes mate belt is fitted fine - since last message had a mobile autospark test the leccy system and guess what? he said that the alternator is shagged!!! how come this wasnt picked up when it was bench tested now i`ll have to do half the job all over again, is there a garage bloody any bloody where that can be trusted/believed/relied on any bloody where???? not to mention the hundred -odd quid for a recon. ggrrr  >:( >:( >:(

Are you sure the earth leads haven't been disturbed/disconnected?

As a final check, (as you can't trust any tinker!), try securely clamping a jump lead from anywhere convenient on the engine block to the negative post on the battery.
Start the engine and see what happens.
If the light goes out - voila - you've got duff earthing.

If the light stays on, well, open your wallet ...... !
