« on: 24 February 2009, 19:03:01 »

ann wants a automatic now as she is findig it hard in a manual even though she won't keep trying in a manual

would it be easier to change the gearbox for a auto or to sell this manual and buy a auto

worse thing is she wants to keep it as a tigra due to liking the style

Don't think it's just a case of swapping the boxes. Pretty sure it's ECU etc.
Be prepared for higher fuel consumption too. There's almost 10mpg difference between my auto Elite and my manual CD (2.5td's)

Like most things it can be done if you really want to do it but you will find it hard work.
You will need the auto wiring looms for gearbox and possibly engine (small cars are likely to have different looms as it saves on production costs, large cars like omega wernt built in enough volume to warrant different looms)
Steering column lock will be different with extra solenoid and contacts for the auto interlock.
If the looms run behind the fascia you could be looking at taking the dash out to fit them.
Drive shafts could be different, autos often use brakes from the next engine size up etc etc.

If you research it with a good Electronic Parts Catalogue you should be able to work out whats involved.

Not worth the effort IMO... Pity I'm not a bit closer as I'd have happily tried to help Ann out with getting the hang of a manual :y :y :y
