Hi all

Took the Omega down to Trade Tyres in Guildford (have to plug them as they were the most helpful place I've been to in a long time) today to get the tracking done and what an interesting trip it turned out to be !!!

The tracking was out and was sorted pretty quickly. However, they also pointed out a lot of oil at the back of the engine bay. Quite a lot there so not sure if it a big leak or something which has been going on for a while. Not had a chance to check it out fully but any pointers towards common problems would be appreciated.

The other thing they found was that there are 2 socking great holes in the rear pipes, just before they join the backbox. These have been taped up so it seems that someone was trying to hide the problem instead of forking out to get it fixed (been quoted £300)!! Will be putting together a nice letter tonight quoting various parts of the Sales of Goods Act and kindly asking the dealer to fix it ASAP.  If I can find the source of the oil leak I might try to get that sorted too as they had the crank sensor replaced just before I bought it so must have noticed all the oil ??

Most likely its the cam cover seals.

Try pulling a spark plug lead and having a look inside - you may well see a lot of oil, in which case the seals are leaking.

Look on the maintenance guide section for instructions to replace them.

As you have a 4 cylinder its quite an easy job, but as everyone will tell you, get the genuine GM (Vauxall) seals.

As a side point have a look at the excellent guide to cleaning the breathers/throttle body/idle control valve on the 4 pot (not V6). That is well worthwhile preventative (and cheap!) maintenance.

Yep, keep on top of this simple preventative maintenance, and little else goes wrong.
